ÜBER DIE AUSSTELLUNG
2020 verwüsteten eine Reihe von schwerwiegenden Waldbränden Landschaften und Gemeinden in Kalifornien. Obwohl Kalifornien in der internationalen Vorstellung oft mit großen Städten, schönen Küstenlandschaften und Bergresorts assoziiert wird, besteht der größte Teil des Bundesstaates aus Wäldern, Farmen und ländlichen Kleinstädten. Eben diese Binnenregionen waren von den Bränden hauptsächlich betroffen. Die Ausstellung “Images from The End of Rain” präsentiert und zelebriert das „andere“ Kalifornien.
Der amerikanische Multimedia-Künstler Scott Ordway reiste über 18 Monate lang durch Kalifornien, führte Interviews mit Überlebenden und dokumentierte fotografisch, wie auch filmisch die Auswirkungen von Feuer und Dürre. Er kombinierte dieses Material zu „The End of Rain“, einem multidisziplinären Projekt, das Musik, Poesie und bildende Kunst miteinander verwebt. „Images from The End of Rain“ präsentiert Fotografie und Video aus diesem Projekt. Die Eröffnung am 17. Juni beinhaltet ein Künstlergespräch mit Scott Ordway.
ÜBER DEN KÜNSTLER
Scott Ordway (geb. 1984, Kalifornien) ist ein amerikanischer Komponist, Autor und Multimedia-Künstler. Seine Arbeit integriert Text, Musik und visuelle Medien, um die Beziehung zwischen Landschaft und Kultur im zeitgenössischen Amerika zu erforschen. Ordways Musik, die weltweit in großen Konzerthallen zu hören ist, wurde als „exquisit“ (New York Times), „soul-stirring“ (BBC) und „haunting and beautiful“ (San Francisco Chronicle) gelobt. Im Jahr 2017 wurde er zum Associate Professor für Musikkomposition an der Rutgers University ernannt.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
In 2020, a series of catastrophic wildfires devastated landscapes and communities in California. Although California is often associated in the international imagination with big cities, beautiful coastal scenes, and mountain resorts, the majority of the state consists of forests, farms, orchards, pastures, and rural small towns. The fires burned primarily in these remote inland regions. This exhibition showcases and celebrates that “other” California.
For more than 18 months, the American multimedia artist Scott Ordway traveled throughout California conducting interviews with survivors and documenting the impact of fire and drought through photography and video. He combined these materials to create The End of Rain, a critically-acclaimed multidisciplinary project that weaves together music, poetry, and visual art. Images from The End of Rain presents photography and video from the collection. The 17 June opening reception will include an artist talk by Scott Ordway.

Scott Ordway (b. 1984, California) is an American composer, writer, and multimedia artist. His widely recognized work integrates text, music, and visual media to explore the relationship between landscape and culture in the contemporary United States. Heard in major concert halls around the world, Ordway’s music has been praised as “exquisite” (New York Times), “soul-stirring” (BBC), and “haunting and beautiful” (San Francisco Chronicle).
