Frankfurt. Every evening, the audience enjoys at least two concerts and a DJ set featuring jazz-influenced music. International and local artists share the stage on the banks of the Main. Cold drinks and a summery vibe provide the perfect setting for unwinding, enjoying yourself, socializing, and joining in̶free of charge and open to al. Mit „The Session“ startet im Montez ein neues Format, bei dem unterschiedliche Musiker und Künstler aus Frankfurt zusammenkommen, um gemeinsam einen Abend zwischen Jazz, Hip-Hop, Soul und Improvisation zu gestalten. ADG7 (Ak Dan Gwang Chil) ist eine mehrfach preisgekrönte Gruppe für koreanische Popmusik, die sie auf traditionellen Instrumenten spielt. Mit unterschiedlichen koreanischen Instrumenten (Daegeum, Saenghwang, Ajaeng, Gayageum und koreanischer Percussion) und einem auf den Volkstraditionen basierenden, kraftvollen Gesang kreiert ADG7 mit seinen Frontsängerinnen eine Mischung aus koreanischem Pop und Funk mit heiteren und humorvollen Elementen.

Alden Hellmuth ist Saxophonistin, Komponistin und Improvisatorin und lebt derzeit in Los Angeles. Die aus Hartford, Connecticut, stammende Musikerin absolvierte ihr Bachelorstudium am Jackie McLean Institute der Hartt School und absolviert derzeit ihr Masterstudium am Herbie Hancock Institute der UCLA. Sie ist weltweit aufgetreten und stand bereits mit Dianne Reeves, Herbie Hancock, Josh Evans, Dezron Douglas, Pablo Held und vielen anderen auf der Bühne.

BLAIR / HUBER wurde von dem preisgekrönten Saxophonisten Darius Blair (23) und dem renommierten Gitarristen Niko Huber (25) gegründet. Die beiden lernten sich bereits als Kinder kennen, nachdem sie in das Hessische Landesjugendjazzorchester und dessen berühmte „Kicks and Sticks Big Band“ aufgenommen worden waren. Blair war gerade einmal sechs Jahre alt, als er durch seinen Soul- und Gospel-begeisterten Vater, einen Prediger, und eine LP von Grover Washington Jr. zum Saxophon kam, während Hubers Instrumentenwahl wohl unvermeidlich war, da er mit einem Musiker als Vater aufwuchs, der besser bekannt ist als Gründer der angesehenen Nik Huber Guitars.
Nachdem sie gut ein Jahrzehnt lang in verschiedenen Besetzungen sowie in ihren eigenen Projekten aufgetreten waren – Huber ist Frontmann von Bird’s View, einer Alternative-Rock-Band, während Blair Teil des unkonventionellen Discovery Collective ist, ganz zu schweigen von seinem Darius Blair Quartett –, begannen sie zu Beginn der Pandemie erstmals als Duo zu spielen. Im selben Jahr wurde Blair der jüngste Empfänger des Frankfurter Jazzstipendiums, bevor er zwei Jahre später den 1. Preis bei Future Sounds gewann. Formed by award-winning saxophonist, Darius Blair (23), and distinguished guitarist Niko Huber (25), BLAIR / HUBER first met as kids after being accepted into Hessen’s State Youth Jazz Orchestra, and its renowned Kicks and Sticks Big Band. Blair was still six when he was first turned onto the saxophone by his soul- and gospel-loving preacher father and a Grover Washington Jr. LP, while Huber’s choice of instrument was arguably inevitable, since he grew up with a musician father known better as the founder of the revered Nik Huber Guitars.
Having performed together in multiple line-ups for a good decade or so, as well as in their own projects – Huber fronts Bird’s View, an alt. rock band, while Blair’s part of the unconventional Discovery Collective, not to mention his Darius Blair Quartett – they first began playing as a duo at the start of the pandemic. The same year, Blair became the youngest recipient of the Frankfurt Jazz Scholarship before winning 1st Prize at Future Sounds two years later. Since then, they’ve bewitched audiences from clubs to castles, and having now signed to LEITER, they are set to follow their debut EP, IN A NEW ORDER, with their first full-length album, which is currently in the making.

Mokoko Gill:
Momoko Gill ist eine autodidaktische Schlagzeugerin, Produzentin, Songwriterin und Sängerin, deren Zusammenarbeit mit Matthew Herbert, Alabaster DePlume, Coby Sey, Tirzah und Nadeem Din-Gabisi – neben ausgiebigen Tourneen als Schlagzeugerin, Keyboarderin und Sängerin – ihren unverwechselbaren Ansatz in Komposition und Produktion geprägt hat. Nun tritt sie mit ihrem eigenen Soloprojekt in den Vordergrund und schlägt damit ein neues Kapitel in ihrer künstlerischen Entwicklung auf. Obwohl stark vom Jazz beeinflusst, lehnt Gill Nachahmung ab und formt ihren Sound eher durch Gefühl und Ausdruck als durch Tradition. Sie hat ihre Fähigkeiten in den Bereichen Harmonie, Schlagzeug, Keyboard und Gesang durch Instinkt, Zusammenarbeit und eigenständiges Studium entwickelt und strebt nach Klarheit sowohl in ihren musikalischen Ideen als auch im Geschichtenerzählen.
Mit einer Stimme, die sowohl Intimität als auch Tiefe vermittelt, erweitert Momoko weiterhin die Grenzen zwischen Genres, Geschichtenerzählen und klanglichen Experimenten und bahnt sich so ihren ganz eigenen Weg.

Pablo Held ist ein Pianist von außergewöhnlichem Können und tiefgründiger Ausdruckskraft. Zusammen mit Robert Landfermann und Jonas Burgwinkel bildet sein Trio eines der am längsten bestehenden Jazzensembles Europas. Seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 2006 haben sie insgesamt elf Alben aufgenommen und sind eine bedeutende Größe im deutschen und europäischen Jazz.
Pablo Held, geboren 1986, wuchs in einer Musikerfamilie in Hagen auf und kam schon früh mit Musik unterschiedlichster Herkunft in Berührung. Im Alter von 18 Jahren begann er in Köln bei John Taylor und Hubert Nuss sein Jazzklavierstudium, das er mit Auszeichnung abschloss. 2006 gründete er zusammen mit Robert Landfermann und Jonas Burgwinkel das Pablo Held Trio, dessen zwei jüngste Alben, „Investigations“ und „Ascent“, bei Edition Records erschienen sind.

Der aus dem DMV stammende Rapper und Plattenproduzent Oddisee erkannte schon früh, dass Sinn und Erfolg eine Frage der eigenen Entscheidung sind. Als Amir Elkhalifa in Washington, D.C., als Sohn eines sudanesischen Vaters und einer afroamerikanischen Mutter geboren und in Prince George’s County, Maryland, aufgewachsen, wurde er schon in jungen Jahren Zeuge krasser Ungleichheit und entwickelte ebenso wie die Stadt, in der er aufwuchs, ein ausgeprägtes politisches Bewusstsein.
Elkhalifa setzt sich mit unerschütterlicher Überzeugung und Offenheit mit der menschlichen Existenz auseinander und verbindet Elemente aus Jazz, Funk und Go-Go in seinen Hip-Hop-basierten Produktionen. Hailing from the DMV (District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia) region, rapper and record producer Oddisee realized early on that purpose and success are ultimately matters of personal choice. Born Amir Elkhalifa in Washington, D.C., to a Sudanese father and an African American mother, and raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, he witnessed stark social inequalities from a young age. Like the city that shaped him, he developed a keen political awareness that continues to inform his work.
With unwavering conviction and honesty, Elkhalifa explores the complexities of the human experience, blending elements of jazz, funk, and Go-Go into his hip-hop-based productions. Rather than pursuing record deals and management contracts, he chose a more independent path. Early in his career, he streamlined every aspect of his craft—recording, producing, and mixing his own music while overseeing his marketing strategy and touring operations himself.

Seit den frühen 90ern ist Matthias Westerweller aka Weller das gute Gewissen der Frankfurter DJ-Szene. Mit unerschöpflicher Erfahrung und einem feinen Gespür für Stimmungen stand er bereits in legendären Clubs wie Cooky’s oder dem Nordisk Club hinter den Decks – und wurde für viele zum musikalischen »Gütesiegel«. Vielleicht liegt das daran, dass er sich nie auf ein Genre festlegen ließ, sondern mit Leichtigkeit Vergangenheit und Gegenwart, Klassiker und Unerwartetes miteinander verknüpft. Vor allem aber daran, dass er es wie kaum ein anderer versteht, eine Atmosphäre zu schaffen – eine »musikalische Reise«, wie er selbst sagt.
Abseits des DJ-Pults ist Weller nicht minder aktiv: Als Radiomacher bei ByteFM, Mitbetreiber des Boutique-Labels Sundae Soul Recordings und Betreiber des Platten- und Kunstladens HOPPIGALOPPI prägt er die Szene bis heute mit Leidenschaft und Weitblick.

Since the early ’90s, Matthias Westerweller, aka Weller, has been the conscience of Frankfurt’s DJ scene. With his wealth of experience and keen sense of atmosphere, he has spun records at legendary clubs like Cooky’s and the Nordisk Club—and has become a musical “seal of approval” for many. Perhaps this is because he has never allowed himself to be pigeonholed into a single genre, but instead effortlessly blends the past and the present, classics and the unexpected. Above all, however, it is because he understands better than almost anyone else how to create an atmosphere—a “musical journey,” as he himself puts it.
Away from the DJ booth, Weller is no less active: as a radio producer at ByteFM, co-founder of the boutique label Sundae Soul Recordings, and owner of the record and art shop HOPPIGALOPPI, he continues to shape the scene with passion and vision.
