Bei der Vernissage werden nur die ersten, vom künstler selbst mitgebrachten Arbeiten präsentiert, während seines 2-wöchigen Aufenthaltes in Frankfurt entstehen weitere, die dann die Ausstellung erweitern werden. (M.M.)

„Xevi Solà Serra, born in 1969, studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona; his work is exhibited for the first time in Lyon after having been featured in galleries and fairs in many countries (Spain, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Denmark, Peru, Brazil, Taiwan …).
Beyond the diversity of topics covered during this period, these works have in common a visual power they hold in the use of complementary colors, contrasts between horizontal and vertical lines between the most and those areas worked treated more relaxed …
Boasting its proximity to the Pop art, Xevi Solà Serra multiplies icons quotes of modern art (Van Gogh, Matisse, Yayoi Kusama …) or cartoon characters, recognizable by all, rejecting and any elitism.
These pictorial means, as diverse as they are, all tend to explore the darkest part of consciousness, pre-human, animal and amoral, and convey a subtly disturbing message.“

„We interview the Spanish artist to know more about his works.
Xevi can you tell us something about you: What’s your story? Where are you from?
I’m from Girona, a city near Barcelona, I’m a person with a lot of imagination, maybe too much and one day I imagined I could be an artist and it seems I’m on the way. When I was young I started to write and draw graphic novels, that’s why I consider myself a storyteller more than a painter. However, now I have to tell a story using only one vignette. I have been working in a lot of different jobs but maybe working in a psychitric hospital has influenced specially in the topics of my paintings.
Can you talk about your aesthetic?
I could define my work like filming a horror movie using relaxing pastel tones in order to achieve, this way, more effective “scares”.The starting point, the motivation to make the first draft of each work, comes mainly from the need to transmit a disturbing message, subtly disturbing, if possible. I seek ways to give clues that refer to the darkest part of consciousness, the part refers to the instincts, sex, the pre-human and animal part, that part considered amoral, beyond the good and evil.I seek not only the contrast between appearance and intentions of the characters, but I also try to communicate the visual strength in formal terms, for example with the use of complementary colors or with the use of the contrast between vertical and horizontal lines in painting and as you say with the contrast between the more finished parts and the less finished ones. I think the final result is more energetic.“
